We have every aquarium supply needed to successfully keep reef aquariums as well, including VHO, Metal Halide, Power Compact and fluorescent lighting as well as all of the essential trace elements needed. One of the most important essential elements in nature required by corals, crustaceans, mollusks, coraline algae and certain other calcareous forms of macroalgae to grow is Calcium. This is done by using limewater or kalkwasser (KW) which is one and the same; a very strong calcium saturated liquid solution that is added to reef tanks to replenish the calcium absorbed from the water by many marine organisms. After extracting calcium from sea water, organisms then use it to build their skeletal structures from calcium carbonate. Calcium alone is not enough, because the availability of carbonate mostly depends upon pH and alkalinity. The bottom line is that calcium, carbonate, pH and alkalinity all relate to one another. To attain a thriving reef community, all of these elements must be in balance.
An easy way to do this is by using a calcium reactor. A calcium reactor offers a simple and convenient solution for maintaining calcium and alkalinity in your reef tank. After the initial setup, the calcium reactor requires minimal maintenance. A calcium reactor is almost a necessity for tanks heavily stocked with stoney corals where calcium and alkalinity demands are high. Check out The Aquarium Supply Company's selection of calcium reactors or any of our products to meet all of your aquarium supply needs.
